in the novel, his mother did not hug him. She asked him to give her more time to get used to his reincarnation. in fact their relation remains complicated for a long time and only gets completely resolved in volume 10 (we are in volume 5 of novel). Tbh i am not sure how to feel about this decision.......her not being ok with his reincarnation seemed more natural to me, and it was because of their alienation that when they finally resolved it all...shit was emotional
